*NEW* Performance/Solo Jazz Track: The Big Apple

Fridays, February 21 - May 16*

8:30pm - 9:30pm

If you've been looking to learn more solo jazz or for an opportunity to learn and even perform some choreography, this course is for you!
What is Solo Jazz? Sometimes called Authentic Jazz, Vernacular Jazz, or Jazz Roots, it is a style of dancing without a partner which developed alongside jazz music in the early 20th century, often adapting moves from tap dance & Lindy Hop**

The Big Apple routine, choreographed by Frankie Manning, can famously be seen in the 1939 film "Keep Punching" performed by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers. It's now danced socially at swing events worldwide where everyone who knows it joins when the appropriate song begins to play!

Learn with Kelly & Tank as they teach The Big Apple step by step. In this class, expect to build and expand your repertoire of solo jazz moves, variations, and rhythms while taking it to a new, energetic level! Open to all, but might be fast paced for those with no prior experience. Wear clothes you are comfortable moving in, prepare to sweat, and bring water to stay hydrated. We plan to showcase this group performing The Big Apple on May 17 at our monthly social dance at TDC (with potential additional performance opportunities TBD).

Participating in the showcase is strongly encouraged, but not mandatory for being in the class. For those who do opt to be in the showcase, we will need you to commit to at least half of the class dates and the actual performance. We don't expect everyone to be able to make it to every class, but we do expect communication and practice outside of class. While it is a solo jazz routine, it is still a team performance, so please show up for your team as much as you can. The more we can dance together, the better it will be!

This course is $270 per person and includes approx. 10 classes, access to recap videos and free entry to our monthly social dances at TDC on 2/22, 3/15, 4/19, & 5/17. No drop-ins.
